<image:title>All Episodes - ADHD Diagnosis Gave Him Clarity and Purpose | Paul Drayton - Paul Drayton</image:title>
<image:caption>Paul Drayton can get anything done for anyone else. For himself, for decades, he couldn't get out of his own way. If you've spent years putting everyone else's needs first and telling yourself that's just who you are, you know this one. Paul is an actor and the author of Ride – Or Die Trying, a memoir about his marriage to comedian Alan Carr, the drinking that got him through it, and an ADHD diagnosis that didn't arrive until fifty, after a divorce, an arrest and a stint in prison. The diagnosis didn't erase any of it. What it did was answer something he'd chased in therapy for years: not one defining trauma, just a brain running on empty and self-medicating with alcohol. He still has rough weeks. He understands them now instead of hating himself for them. If you've spent your life mistaking a character flaw for a brain that works differently, this one's for you. Before that he worked in television, including at MTV, and ran digital audio and a content innovation lab at the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, where he launched one of the first legal music podcasts. He is the author of Earn It: Unconventional Strategies for Brave Marketers. Since leaving the company he built, he has spent a year publicly experimenting his way through midlife: ditching his smartwatch and Strava, a month off his phone, a year without alcohol and ketamine-assisted therapy, writing it all up with his friend Geoff Siskind on their newsletter, The Midlife Field Guide. His research looks at social cognition and perspective-taking, in particular why people so reliably misjudge how well it will go when they reach out to someone else, including a stranger. He is the author of Mindwise: How We Understand What Others Think, Believe, Feel, and Want (2014) and the new book A Little More Social: How Small Choices Create Unexpected Happiness, Health, and Connection. His work has won the Theoretical Innovation Award from the Society for Personality and Social Psychology and the American Psychological Association's Distinguished Scientific Award for Early Career Contribution to Psychology, and the Financial Times has named him a professor to watch. He lives in the Chicago area with his wife and five children, including his daughter Lindsey, adopted from China, whose total lack of social filter he describes simply as a beautiful thing to watch. <image:caption>Dr Kat Page is an organisational psychologist and the author of Good Work: Transform Your Work from the Inside Out. She holds an Adjunct Professor appointment at Swinburne University and works as a leadership partner at ByMany, and her research on burnout and workplace design has been cited in World Health Organization and International Labour Organization guidance. She grew up the daughter of two police officers, and has spent almost two decades studying what makes work good for people rather than simply productive, taking her into settings from mining sites to hospital wards to boardrooms. Good Work sets out a framework for redesigning work at the personal, team and organisational level, built on two decades of research and her own experience raising two young children while running a full advisory practice. <image:caption>Mark Beretta OAM spent thirty years on air at Channel Seven, the last twenty-two of them as the sports presenter on Sunrise. He is a ten-time Australian water-skiing champion and a Major in the Australian Army Reserve, where his work now includes ceremonial duties for Army Headquarters in Canberra. He was one of the original riders on Tour de Cure's first fundraising ride eighteen years ago, and by his own count the cycling charity has since raised more than $165 million for cancer research and funded 221 breakthroughs. He is an ambassador for the Butterfly Foundation, focused on lifting awareness of eating disorders and body image pressure among young men. Mark stepped away from Sunrise in 2026 after thirty years with the network, and is currently his mother's main support through her cancer treatment, a year after losing his father. <image:caption>Erin Buttermore is a strategy consultant and executive coach. She is a PhD candidate at the University of Sydney, where her research looks at the psychological mechanisms behind the imposter phenomenon, including the part organisations play in feeding it. Her coaching work sits with senior leaders and knowledge workers who look successful from the outside and privately discount every win. She is candid that she was drawn to the research because she recognised the same pattern in herself. This is her second appearance on Don't Let the Old Man In, and she is the first guest the show has invited back. Her first conversation with Pod is one of the show's most watched episodes. <image:caption>Dr Marny Lishman is a Doctor of Psychology, author, speaker and mindset coach based in Australia. She spent more than 15 years in clinical practice across private practice, government health prevention programs and professional training, and she is a regular contributor to Australian radio and television on wellbeing, resilience and midlife psychology. She has written four books: Burnout to Brilliant, A Beautiful Mess, Crisis to Contentment, and Only You: The Unexpected Gift of Being Alone. The last two grew out of her own experience, the first from her midlife fog and the second from learning to be content on her own. On tape she describes herself as a mental health professional and a social scientist, and says the part of writing she loves most is the storytelling. <image:caption>Scott Fulton describes himself as a research engineer rather than a research scientist, focused on what holds up in the real world. He spent his career troubleshooting complex systems across industries, and in 2016 turned that work towards ageing. He chaired the National Aging in Place Council in the US and teaches healthspan and ageing courses at colleges across America. His book Function: Turn Your Blind Spots Into Strengths draws on longitudinal studies covering more than 700,000 participants and over 10 million person-years of data. It sets out more than 40 self-assessments across five domains: strength and power, cardiovascular recovery, mobility and balance, flexibility and structure, and neuromotor and cognition. He also runs the Whealthspan education program and a biological age calculator. He came to endurance sport with no athletic background and completed his first Ironman at 47. It began as one table in Sydney that ran for seven years. Then he and co-founder Ben Hughes turned it into a national organisation, and there are now close to 300 tables around the country. Before that he built and ran his own business in Sydney. His earlier working life took in school teaching, hospitality management and management consulting. He arrived at that first table as a participant, invited by a friend who wanted to start a men's group. He is a regular meditator. He and his wife separated after twenty one years together and later reconciled, which he describes as being married a second time to the same person.
